What were your objectives in attending MLP? Were they met?
I wanted to learn more strategies in navigating the corporate landscape as a black woman. At times being in corporate gets political and this level of my professional journey was new territory to navigate.
What surprised you most about the experience?
The similar experiences of others around me. At times it cane be lonely working in a field dominated by men and women that share a similar cultural background to myself. I hadn’t realized how nice it was to professionally collaborate with others that share my same experiences and challenges to navigate.
How did this program change or influence your approach to leadership?
During this program I learned how to position myself to better advocate for my professional growth. This program helped me navigate and achieve a promotion by giving me the tools I needed to leverage that and how to push for that in an acceptable manner. I was able to negotiate and illustrate my strengths and achievements in a clear, concise and visual manner that was well received by my stakeholders.
Is there anything else you'd like to share about the experience?
I enjoyed the pairing and the relationships that continued after my completion of the program. The informational talks and the coaching received during the program was amazing. Having never had a 360 assessment nor having any formal mentorship that provided guidance in growing strategic about my professional development was a game changer for me.
